How is PYUMC organized

Our church’s administrative oversight is primarily handled by a network of teams.  Below is a list of these teams and their functions.  They are elected at our yearly Church Conference, at which all Church Members can vote.

Church Council
This is the governing body of our church.  The Church Council’s job is to envision, plan, implement and annually evaluate the ministry of the congregation.  Representatives from other committees, as well as various ministry areas, serve on this board.

Trustees
Trustees supervise and maintain the property of our congregation to ensure that disciple-making ministries of the church are effective and that local legal requirements related to the property are satisfied.

Finance
The finance team proposes a budget, helps raise, manage, and distribute the financial resources to support and strengthen the mission and ministry of the congregation.

Staff-Parish Relations
This team oversees the human resources or personnel work of the church.  The SPRC works with the pastor and staff to support effectiveness in the ministry.  The committee oversees legal, financial, and ethical responsibilities related to the staff such as health insurance staff policies and supervision.

Nominations and Leadership Development
Christian spiritual leaders are identified, developed, and deployed to carry out the congregation’s ministries that fulfill the mission of making disciples and transforming the community.  Each fall this committee brings a slate of nominees to the Church Conference for the congregation to vote on.

Safe Sanctuary
This team is responsible for the updating and implemention of our church’s Safe Sanctuary policy, which aims to make church a safe place for all children, youth, and vulnerable adults, as well as the volunteers who work with them.

Missions
This team helps keep PYUMC on the front lines of missions around the world by overseeing the missions spending built into our operating budget.  They keep in touch with missionaries we support and find new opportunities for funding missions both locally and globally.

Memorial Gifts
Often when someone passes away, friends and family give a gift in their memory to the church  This team oversees the use of these funds for the purchase of items that support and enhance the ministry of this church.
